Learn to Sail
Sailing School Information for participants: Information for Participants.
Anyone can learn to sail, whether you are 8 or 80 years old. The varieties of boats available mean that people of any age can find one that suits them. During sailing season, sailing lessons will be offered on Saturday mornings at the WLBC. The entry requirements are that you join the club, and are able to swim 25 metres. Club membership can be obtained on a day-to-day basis, via SailPass.
It’s a cheap sport; all you need is some suitable clothing and be on the water having the time of your life. We have spare boats, so people don’t need to buy a boat to begin sailing.
How can I participate?
Email our Sailing Instructor, Tony Hastings, or come by the club on any Saturday during sailing season (start of October to end of April) to see what we do, introduce yourself and book in. Booking ahead is required to ensure a trainer will be present and prepared to assist you. People of any age are welcome to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany dependent children.
What should I bring?
Participants are advised to bring their own lunch, and clothing such as swim-wear, shorts, a long-sleeved shirt and jacket, or any old clothes you don’t mind getting wet. Sunscreen, a hat and a water bottle are also recommended. Life jackets can be provided.
Weather
Sailing will only go ahead if the weather is suitable. We sail within a wind range of 3 to 20 knots.
